[Ack - I just put in an invisible zip in a very non-historic dress but the tab at the top is a) the wrong colour and b) hanging out.... Any suggestions? (polite ones thank you). No sign of zips this colour in the locale so]
I have had success using model paint enamel to paint the zipper pulls. This is the paint that is sold to paint the car, boat and airplane models sold to little boys and hobbyists. Two or three colours can be mixed to find an exact match to your fabric. Try a test swatch to make sure the paint doesn't change colour as it dries.
