Hi again,
As mentioned the museum catalogue i have, most of these dresses are made of silk taffeta, embroidered along the train border wich is rounded at the end, and on the hem of the dress skirts. They are to match the heavily embroidered mens costumes, wich continued to be worn into the 1800 years. Embroideries are silk embroideries.

have been asked to make a wedding dress in this style but I don't know much

It looks very french to me.
I can't seem to find more pictures of this style of dress.
I would love to have more pictures to see what types of fabric and
embellishmend was used.

The book, "Age of Napoleon" has some nice pictures of French court dress.
While most of the trains were velvet, there is one pictured, if memory serves,
where the train was the same fabric as the dress.

The train would be separate and, if heavy, it would indeed have straps over the shoulders. This dress looks like it is all silk, with embroidery edging the train. Perhaps you could find a nice wide embroidered edging that you could use instead--shaping it around the train could be a little tricky, but not impossible. The ruff around the neck was most like tulle, although you
could probably also use silk organza or lace.

There used to be all kinds of wedding dress patterns with detachable trains,
but they seem to have disappeared. Still, it shouldn't be too hard to
create a train to the dimensions you want.

Of course, much depends on if the bride wants her dress exactly like that,
or just inspired by it.
