I believe I heard, someplace, that Lillian Russel, the sexy young thing of the 1890s, weighed 175 pounds. Don't know how tall she was, but think Mae West.

Keep an eye out for it in second book stores - it's worth the purchase for
amusement!

I once saw aMadam Butterfly played by a woman of 5'10", strapping to say the least, with a large mono-bosom, and all of fifty, possibly older. Made a mockery of "my little Butterfly"!! (And Pinkerton should have retired about 10 years earlier, as he was not only in his sixties, but shorter than her, and as fat. Put me off Puccini forever!
