I was asking because in my country this is a very popular sort of fabric used
by re-enactors (whose knowledge of historical costumes is, mostly, very poor).
I've never seen it mentioned in any book on costumes, so I was wondering where
does its popularity come from. The people use it mostly for heavy garments like
cloaks, but now it's being used even for the leg wear... Maybe it's so popular
because there's simply no other kind of fabric of natural material (cotton)
which provides warmth on the market, except for velvet.
