Along the same sort of lines (obv. about historically accurate as medieval space invaders, so don't shoot me), a plain (ie unprinted) basic adult t-shirt, far too big for the kid, and belted in the middle will work too for any families on a tight budget. *************** Not bad! I cannot think of any books that cover such costuming but.... For the boys, you can also take a child's bathrobe of plain cloth [y'know, no stripes or prints] and instead of overlapping the front, close it edge to edge [or nearly] Use frogs if there's a budget and you can buy them. Belt it with a leather belt [as wide a possible] and trim the sleeves and neck a bit. Wear a turtleneck and tights under it and make a great hat...like a beret with folds spilling out of it. The hats and other head gear can be a fun thing the kids can help make themselves and can be hot melt glued or contact cemented together. They aren't hard. Most can be berets with brims [a gathered circle sewn to the inside hole of a donut shaped stiff brim] You can do this for the girls with an adult's robe...the longer the better...and belt it under the "bust" with the robe's belt or something fancy like one of mom's metallic belts or some wide trim or ribbon. The trims can be glued on...but hand basting is better and doesn't take that long. You could even carefully arrange pleats, basting them or safety pinning them on the inside under the belt. A great thing to get people to do is the wrap a piece of tape [duct or package...something like that] around the top of the safety pins, if you use them, after you've got things pinned up. This prevents them from accidentally opening and sticking someone. Always place them inside or under something so they won't show! _______________________________________________ h-costume mailing list [email protected] http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
