Sorry for the cross posting confusion. I have replaced the photo of the
Military base with some illustrations of the insignia and the brocade pattern.

Any experts on heraldry out there? Doesn't look like much to me.

Thanks for your interest,

Subject: Extant Mil. Base. Davenport's picture vs Paynes and METs.

Hi, the page you uploaded is an executable file...is that what you meant to
do? I found the picture in Davenport's book. I compared it to the pictures I
have of the inside of the bases. It looks to be the same one. I counted the
pleats as best I could, looked at the relative placement of the straps. There
is also a telltale piece of light fabric on the inside right of the base (from
the viewer's perspective while the base is inside out, top up.)

The picture is not good enough to see the insignia stamp. The note says
"XVIc. 1525. German. Maximilian.", and doesn't give a location. Davenport's
book (1948) predates Payne's (1965): I suppose it is possible that the bases
were still in Saxony at the time.

I have traced both the stamp and the brocade pattern and am trying to get it
up on my website. I am redoing it in Dreamweaver, so it is taking me longer
than normal.

I am still waiting to hear from the Met. And I haven't gotten off my duff
yet to inquire with Renaissance Fabric expert yet - will try to get that done
today.

  Thanks for your patience.

  Sg
