(At the risk of looking like I am siding with the other side...) As much as we'd all love to see accurate costuming on TV, film or the stage, most times it just ain't gonna happen.
Costumers are restricted by budget, availability of materials, and time. Unless making a documentary on textiles or clothing, they are also restricted by the dramatic needs of the piece. The costumer's job is to add to the emotional atmosphere of the piece while melding with the production design, lighting and cinematography, make up, and a fountain of other aspects. For stage work, it is even more complex if quick-changes are needed. All that said, I still wince every time I see the hook and eye tape in Gladiator, -C. ------------------------------------------------------------ This email was sent from Netspace Webmail: http://www.netspace.net.au _______________________________________________ h-costume mailing list [email protected] http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
