movie; for every costume that wasn't too bad, there were a ton of gowns that
looked like bad Ren Faire escapees. I got particularly annoyed because the
Robert Dudley character went around with his doublet open and his shirt
collar untied! No sane man would have gone about in public dressed like that
in period. (When Hamlet visits Ophelia in a similar state of deshabille, she
immediately assumes he's run mad.)
I remember when the movie came out, we got a kick of explaining that
Joseph Fiennes had it left over from "Shakespeare in Love", or vice versa.
(It was also quite the shame that the movie didn't have Dudley doing
much except mooning around and acting all moody.)
