Well, nothing is easier than making wide pannier gowns look like a  decorated 
cake....
 
As far as corsets go...If the front is good and stiff, you can just bone  the 
seams in the back. Remember, cable ties are available for boning at your  
local Lowe's and Home Depot. There's a very heavy pellon that stands by itself 
I  
got at Jo Ann's once and mad a brimmed hat from. You could put that in the 
front  of the corset with a bone just here and there. And you can hoop the 
skirts  themselves, as opposed to a skirt over a hoop. 
I remember seeing Las Vegas outfits like this, sans underskirt so you could  
see the legs. Lots of big cupids and birds on the skirts, the stomachers  and 
in the tall wigs. Be sure to check the craft store as well as  the hardware 
store!
