I do not see binding. I see a stroke of paint that represents a shadow. It looks to me like her headdress is made of red velvet, which would be thick enough to have a narrow shadow if it was slashed like that.


Issue 2: What should the back look like? If you look at the bottom diagonal slash of the bag-like portion, on the other side of the circumference seam it looks a bit like there's a slash on the back that mirrors it.

I see that too. I think any kind of symmetrical design will work, lacking direct evidence of what it really looked like.


Issue 3: that blackish semi-circle at the nape of the neck
This looks almost like a painter's mistake, or as though the paint has started to flake off

It's a black hairnet under the hood. Follow the line up over her ear, across the top of her head. You can see the black hairnet under the pleated sheer gold band on the front of her hood. Note where the gold changes color above her ear as the hairnet tucks under and the gold band continues along the curve of her hood.
