I've been collecting images of under-gowns and bodiced petticoats just as

The first two images in the file are from the Manchester Galleries. Both
are cotton, I believe. Perhaps your curator is thinking of something like
the sleeved Manchester galleries garment, which almost looks like an
under-gown to me. If she wants China silk (habitoi - it comes in different
weights0 you may want two undergarments - a cotton slip something like the
version with the under-flaps and simple front placket (you could also do a
back closure) plus the silk undergown.
