My hair does not stay with pins, as it's too slippery (or maybe it's the shape of my head!). I have to sew the braids to the hair underneath (not just to each other) with ribbon to make it stay.

This is what I was going to say. I use a large needle, make sure I catch the hair underneath, and work my way slowly around my head. Do it really tight, too. Space each "stitch" about an inch or so apart, and work slowly. You'll need about 6 or 7 feet (up to two meters) to do it right, if not more.

My biggest suggestion, is to do it on a day that you have a lot of time and nowhere to go. It's always more frustrating when you are on your way to an event and trying a new hairstyle.

Good luck,
Genie
