     The perfect use would be caps, neck-handkerchiefs, engegantes and
perhaps a dressy apron.  White embroidery would look nice on it.

     Also ruffles on caps or the sleeves & necklines of shifts were
sometimes made of a finer fabric than the rest of the garment.

     Since the hems of ruffles are seen, they should be hand-stitched.  I
don't think anyone has seen the selvedge edge of a fabric used for a
ruffle edge.
