as in that painting. Also, the style of the clothing (especially the very
long pointed fronts) is from the late 1500's, when wheel farthingales were
worn. Bumrolls, worn alone, were earlier.

What is your evidence for bumrolls worn alone prior to last decade or two of the 16th century? Prior to the fashion for the 'body on a platter' look a set of petticoats or a Spanish Farthingale would be all the skirt support I would suspect.
