I am teaching Fashion History I in an AA program.

I realy dislike the Totura book and its CD. When I showed one of the CD
sections to my students one pipes up "There are no costume pictures in
this." I can't remember the chapter, but several were like that.

I found that I would prep 15 to 20 hours per week to do my own Powerpoint
the first time I taught the class. It was a pain, but worth it.

Susan,

My book is the 2005- fourth edition and has a white cover. When I first it
was our textbook title last spring, I thought "Oh. no!" Why even make the
students buy it. I would have had to supplement the older editions a lot.
Then I went through newer edition and found a lot more references to events
in fashion history and designers. I really think the book is worth the
price if they are going to take more than one costume history class. I can
understand in a community college setting not paying that high of price for
a textbook.

Others who are teaching costume or fashion history... what level is your
class taught? Mine is a 300 level. I ask because I earned an AA Fashion
degree in what was now a community college. When I transferred to a senior
college, some of my fashion classes wouldn't transfer because they needed to
be taken at a senior college 300 & 400 level. I had this happen at the
university where I teach at and University of New Mexico. I even had to
repeat a consumerism class taken at UNM because it wasn't taken at the
proper level. It was such a pain in the butt taking classes over because
they weren't taken at the proper level... and the waste of money.

Susan, what are you doing at Uof T?
