Robin,
When I can get in the office, I will take a look. I need to move the
magazines off an old book shelf to the new one... so hopefully the Cher
costume will be in one of those magazines.
Update...I got into the office to get the Mackie book!!! My son actually
cleaned up his mess! Can't get to the magazines. :(
Page 65 of the book, "Unmistakably Mackie."
There is a Cher dress that might be the one you are talking about. This
dress is made from one solid piece of fabric.. no seams. The photos are
b&w. It looks kinda Grecian. The skirt pulls up to her right side exposing
the right leg and drapes (alot) around her left leg. The skirt swoops
behind her right breast with a long hair braid covering her breast. The
fabric goes behind her chest and over her left shoulder and arm, and pinned
at wrist, with fabric draping down to the floor from the left arm. The
fabric over the left shoulder is pinned somehow to the right side of the
neck. This creates a bare diagonal line across her right breast to beneath
the left hip. The two photos, front and back views, show Mackie pinning the
costume on Cher for a photoshoot. I believe she is supposed to be an Indian
by the two long thick braids with a criss-cross ribbons also a ribbon across
her forehead, and she is holding a tall shear in the other hand with the
draping. This photo was before her boob job. No photo credit was given.
If this is not it... let me know and I will look more. I would scan the
photos but my scanner bulb blew and can't get it to the shop until this
week. Hopefully the techs will be back from the holidays. If not, I will
photocopy it and mail it to you.
Robin, I recently purchased a copy of this book cheap on Amazon.com used
books. The book had not been used before. I guess it was an overstock.
I am also re-grouting a bathroom... back to grout.

Robin, is the dress you are describing on this page?

knot at her throat.
No, but that's cool too ... No, the one I remember had a single piece
coming straight up from the skirt, over one breast, around the back of the
neck, then down to cover (just) the other breast and then end. No
crossing, knots, wraparounds. It was the asymmetricality, plus the near
physical impossibility of it staying in place, that made it so striking.
Good luck with the remodeling. If you should happen to see that dress in a
photo in one of your books someday, please drop me a note!
