size "D" beading floss works about the same and is a little cheaper the dental floss. But if you can't get beading floss then dental is the way to go. And if you do not want to repair beadwork on a garment that you created "DO NOT" use regular sewing thread, no matter how much the thread matches. Stronger than any other thread I know of (makers of belly dance garb sometimes suggest it for beading dance bras).
