My husband and I went to York on our honeymoon two years ago, and we enjoyed the Castle Museum, which included exhibits about mourning in Victorian England and a clothing exhibit. Those exhibits might not be there anymore, but in the gift shop they had a booklet about two Victorian gowns in their collection. They also had a display of booklets that appeared to be local productions about things like the history of candlemaking or stuff like that.
I loved York. We spent two days there and we didn't see half of what there was to see. It was much more enjoyable than London for us. I've instructed him to buy any postcards that have clothing or portraits on them, but we will see if he remembers.
