Trim off any fraying edges. Take the edge of the fabric between your
thumb and finger and try and roll it into a narrow hem. Curse. Snip

Practive on scraps first. It takes a bit to get used to the
individual properties of whatever fabric you're using.

One point, don't try starting at a corner! It will drive you
crazy. Start at least a couple of inches from any corner and it will
be much easier.
