I'm so excited--I actually have a dressmaker's dummy so I can answer this question.

Currently, it's wearing my soon-to-be-finished-I-hope apron-front Empire gown, as well as a Spencer I made from the same book, _Patterns of Fashion 1, Englishwomen's Dresses and Their Construction_, many years ago. Even though the bodice of the gown does not hang quite correctly, and the Spencer is now missing some of its fabric-covered buttons, the dummy looks fabulous. And, I now know that I will be able to finish the gown since I can actually see it rather than struggling to pin it on and pining for at least another pair of arms while attempting to see myself in the mirror (say that three times fast).

Off to bed...
