Why would you want to do it without fastenings? <puzzled look> Also, your
depictions pretty clearly show front openings, also--the one on the right
has buttons. So why no front openings? <another curious look>
If I were doing this outfit for a gentleman I knew, and wanted to stay away
from front openings for whatever reason, I'd probably revert to a side
lacing. I've got a personal example (photograph from Salisbury Cathedral in
England), of a gentleman's tomb carving. It's 60-odd years prior to your
intended outfit (person in question died in 1389), and in a different
country to boot, but he's clearly wearing a fitted outer layer, and it's
clearly laced shut on the sides, with a type of spiral lacing. You're going
to need some sort of closures to get much of a fit for this sort of garment.

Subject: [h-cost] 1432 doublet - fastening?

armor, and weapons, but originally it comes from the Wenceslas bible and
it's dated to the 1432, Bohemia. I would like the doublet to follow the
shape of the body, not very tight, just a little, but not too loose. My
question is - how can I achieve this WITHOUT a fastening? Is it possible?
How tight can I do the waistline when the man's chest/bust is around 100cm?
Do you know any tricks about this?

is, where would a fastening for such a garment be? (I don't want the front
fastening). On the back? Or was there any at the sides? What would be used?
Lacing? Buttons? Hooks and eyes? Anything else?
