I remember evening gowns, and red carpet gowns, start to move from that clinging 1930's type of shift towards a more structured look. It was still a close fitting shift, but in crisper fabrics with more flair at the hem. You see more trains and fish-tails. And decoration starts to move from applied stuff, like beading, to self fabric stuff, like ruffles and pleats. A trend that still lingers.
