I just received this announcement and thought that other members of h-costume who live in the Washington D.C. area might be interested. It's on the wrong coast for me. :'(

Special Festival at The Textile Museum Next Week!

Woven Dreams: Textiles and Music from Malaysian Borneo
Wednesday, July 25

Join us on Wednesday, July 25 for a daylong celebration of Malaysian culture.

Free, drop-in daytime events:
From 11 am to 1:30 pm and again from 3:30 to 5 pm, watch Iban master weaver Nancy Ngali create a pua kumba cloth on a floor loom. This traditional ceremonial cloth is known as a "woven dream" because it is believed that the weaving goddess Kumang gives the design and pattern to the weaver through dreams. From 12 to 4 pm, visitors can create a palm frond grasshopper with artist Michael Lim.

Evening lecture and performance (advance registration required):
At 6:30 pm, scholar and author Edric Ong will speak on the topic: "Sustaining the Arts and Crafts of Traditional Cultures in the Modern World." A performance of traditional Bornean music and dance follows the talk.

Fee for the evening lecture and performance: $5/members; $8/non-members. Advance registration is required. Call (202) 667-0441, ext. 64 or <http://cmpgnr.com/r.html?c=1009087&r=1008296&t=1094323250&l=1&d=88557667&u=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2etextilemuseum%2eorg%2fPDFs%2fgeneral%5fregistration%5fform%2epdf&g=0&f=-1>click here for a registration form.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to see traditional weaving firsthand and learn more about Malaysian culture!
