Hello everyone,

I am embarking on some Tudor costume. I am searching for a citation for the portrait on this page:

http://www.explore-parliament.net/nssMovies/02/0296/0296_.htm

I've looked around the website and cannot find any contact information for the website itself nor anywhere on the site that gives credit to the artists for the portraits therein. I've googled until my eyes bled, but was unable to find the first portrait anywhere else, which leads me to think it may be a more modern piece (a learned friend suggested perhaps Victorian).

The dress in the above seems to be based on this portrait of Mary when she was married to Charles Brandon, (anon. 1516) here:

As I would like to recreate the dress as accurately as possible, I am trying to find out if the portrait in the top link is of the period or a more modern extrapolation.

While it is definitely a long shot, I'm hoping one of you have seen the first portrait and can tell me the artist and date of creation.

As the 2nd portrait was done in 1516, would the bottom half of the dress (as seen in the first portrait) be appropriate for the time). I'm oh so new to Tudor costuming and have a sneaking suspicion that the open fronted skirt comes into fashion a bit later... but I'm a complete newbie to this so that's based on nothing but having looked at a few dozen photos.

Any and all assistance is appreciated. If you haven't seen the first portrait but would like to brainstorm about possibilities for the bottom half, I'd love to hear your suggestions!

Thank you.

Best,

Melissa
