Well, it was haute couture only as far back as 2002, but honestly, it's more of a costume than a "real" dress.... but the Smithsonian has a golden "Minerva" dress by Oscar de la Renta in the Treasures of American History exhibit (over in Air & Space while American History is closed)... Even those I point it out to who aren't into high fashion, costuming or sewing have generally given it a "wow" for the amount of work and skill that went into it.
