My color screen displays the color illustration of the gown as a
dark, dark plum rather than black. If you're going for color, I can
recommend dark, dark plum--just gorgeous!

I do have "2000 Years of Fashion" but in my copy, tis black and white.
Beautiful gown and I am not having much luck at resisting the
temptation of making it up in a jewel tone.
