If you want a more muted color but one that's not much darker, you might
just add in either a tan, camel, or rust colored dye.
If you want something darker and more vibrant, there are a couple of
different ways to do it. One, if you're lucky, is to find a dye that's
almost exactly the color you want, except a bit too warm, and overdye it in
that (if you look at the dye and think, "Oh, that's a bit too
yellow-orangy", or "a bit too brown" it's probably about right). The other
is to mix together red, a tad of orange, and brown, and use that to overdye;
if you want a dark but still faded and "natural" looking color, use a very
dark brown such as sepia (but use it very sparingly or take the fabric out
of the dye a bit early); if you want a richer, more intense color, use a
lighter brown such as chocolate, and leave your fabric in the dye longer for
a deeper color.
