That's applying modern moral values to another time, which isn't much 
different than people who want to wear clothes from another time in the 
modern day.

Why does it matter? If they are "just doing it for trend's sake" what 
difference does it make if they are using or making incorrect impressions of 
a clothing era?  It would be different if they wanted to wear antique 
clothing in a modern way *while* participating in a re-enactment.

Very, very few people out in the general public look at clothing from a 
"serious angle" --  you are in the minority!  That's what fashion is all 
about -- trendy and now. Most people just want today's fashion, regardless 
of what it is, and -often- regardless of how attractive it is! :-)

People who "have a passion and appreciation for historical fashions" are 
uncommon and considered an oddity by the rest of the clothes-wearing public. 
It's quaint and possibly odd like stamp collecting or tatting with 
horsehair. (no offense meant to philatelists or tatters)
