I know the application of this is Definately OT, but I am hoping some
historical re-enactors have faced this issue somewhere along the line...

I have been making fulled knitted slippers for awhile and got the idea to make
myself a pair of boots (knee high and no heel-been looking for these for a
couple of years) based on the pattern I was using. They turned out pretty well
after some fiddling, but now I have to address the bit about waterproofing them
and adding some kind of sole so they can stand up to outside use. I would just
as soon not use a modern sole if I can avoid it.
My husband suggested using linseed oil to waterproof the fulled wool of the
body, but I've never heard of this.
Anybody know anything helpful here?

TIA,
Laurie
