I would contact Tara McGinnis (Costumer's Manifesto - http://www.costumes.org/)
for that kind of info. She had a great class on theatrical makeup from before
the 20th century, which I took at Costume College. I took some notes, but it's
a jumble right now. She may even be able to send you a digital copy of her
handout, which is packed around here somewhere. Anyway, she's the one I would
ask.
