You are looking at couching. You just take 3 cords and lay them down and cross them at matched interrvals. Pin them at where they cross and couch them down. This looks like a silver cord, but it could be done with any color. It is one of the easiest kinds of knotwork to do. It can be done in cross stictch and is in a lot of cross stitch books that have knotwork. Good luck.
