I do have a question - the iron I have doesn't steam  as
well as I like (aside from burping water onto my fabric - yuk)  and
usually when I want steam I have a small bottle of water on hand  to
mist.  Does anyone see a problem with this?  I usually get a  better
coverage that the iron will manage without huge wet spots.

You must avoid this or you will spot the silk. You've got to get a good  
iron. It's as important as good scissors and a decent sewing  machine. I have a 
Rowenta that I got at the fabric store....Hancock's or  Jo Anne's, I can't 
remember. It's very rarely spits on the fabric, and  usually when I have put 
too 
much water in it. Iron something else before you  do the silk to make sure it's 
not leaking  water.
