This area has free access year round. 4. Costume Encyclopedia: www.costumeencyclopedia.com Database containing 770 entries and 407 images. Covers the creative and business historic sides of the fashion and costume industries. Passwords are only required for links to full articles or images enlargements. 5. Costume & Fashion History Slideshows: www.costumeslideshows.com Contains 16 slideshows with 749 images total. Features collections from Virginia Commonwealth University's Fashion Dept. and John And Mable Ringling Museum of Art. Note: Each slideshow has its own domain assigned. You will need to enter the passwords for each slideshow. 6. Fashion Color Database: www.fcdatabase.com Database providing over 2,100 entries of color names, their definitions, usage, and trends that were used from 600 A.D. to 1930s. Users need to enter the password "w324dcgk" to search the database. 7. Hairstyle History: www.pasthairstyles.com/ Covers hair history from ancient to the 1970s. 8. Fashion Designers of Their Time: www.pastdesigners.com Showcases 56 fashion womenswear and menswear designers, milliners, and hair designers and over 280 images from the Victorian to Depression eras. 9. Costume, Fashion, & Textile Dictionary: www.costumedictionary.com The Dictionary consists of 450 definitions and 200 pages in Adobe Acrobat Reader. The definitions cover the fashion and textile industries' history from ancient times to the 1890s. The Dictionary also covers certain areas of industries trends and statistics for the 19th Century. Use the top menu and click on Library Subscribers; next click on "Directions for Usage." Lastly under the same topic, click on "Login to the Dictionary." Enter the passwords. The speed of the Dictionary's Acrobat file depends upon the speed of your internet service provider and computer. This is a large file, so please be patient.
