     Every once in a while, though, you get a piece of fabric where the
fibers are apparently saturated with the original color and will not
take a new dye. In that case, RIT dye remover will help before trying
the new color. Otherwise I agree that any old shade of red or reddish
brown will work — whatever you like. And dyeing in hot water will
full the wool a bit.

     RIT contains both dyes for animal fiber and plant fiber. Toss in a
plant fiber item (cotton or linen) and then you'll get extra mileage
out of the dye.
