SHE has for for months been wearing the bodice to a mint-and-cream striped silk
1780s gown, with a bumroll, awaiting addition of the skirt part and trim.
However, over it she is now wearing a Federal-style silk organza chemisette,
taken apart a couple of years ago and put back together for last Saturday
night--unsuccessfully, sad to say, so it is being taken apart ONCE AGAIN and
redesigned. It has a stand-up organza layer to support a stand-up lace collar,
and a low finishing layer of closely pleated organza (never gonna do THAT
again). The organza support layer did not lay properly (I now remember why I
took it apart before) and must be re-cut, and the lace layer wilted and looks
like it must be attached to the organza support. This all puts me in mind of
one of the truisms of our world:

"FINISHED COSTUME" IS AN OXYMORON: THERE IS NO SUCH THING.

HE is wearing a Federal waistcoat--finished down to working the buttonholes.
Both HE and SHE expect their garments to be done for an event at the first of
March. Darn presumptuous dressforms--do they think I am made of time?????
After all, I have to go out and make a living to buy them all the fabric for
the costumes they continually demand.....

....a servant's work is never done.
