Hi Cynthia,
The straws/milliners' needles I've found have been made by the English
company whose name I've blanked on but it's John Something. Better fabric
stores like Lacis or Stone Mtn & Daughter in Berkeley carry them; you won't
find them at JoAnns. Going through all your thicknesses, I suggest you use a
thimble.
