In my admittedly un-scientific survey, it seems that prosperous matrons here
in the US favored dark silk gowns rather than muslin.
I was reading something the other day that stated that darker, sophisticated colours were the dress of the more mature lady. Read so many over the last frew days I can't remember where if I do I'll let you know !
