Taken straight from Janet Arnold, and appears in several other books
(including corsets and crinolines) as gridded patterns that can be scaled up
and
adapted. Actually dated to c.1598, but perfectly good for a little later.

If you're having a bodice over the top with any kind of lacing then you'll
need a little boning to prevent it from wrinkling, but it'll be minimal -
just at the lacing should suffice.

Zuzana,

If you want a pattern for the shorter-waisted stays of the first half of
the 17th century, try http://www.12eyes.co.uk/stays/stays.htm .

Having a minimal figure, I find a boned bodice adequate for middle-class
attire. If you want to wear separate stays, I think you would still need
light boning in the bodice.
