I can definitely see that typical colonial reaction of anything from the homeland being better, but sheer scarcity would surely lead the colonists to make use of what's around them. I'm also thinking, though, about the many types of native clothing that European frontiersmen adopted, and how American Indians accessorized with trade goods....
