If you are doing historical costume in the time period of this book, it is 
interesting to see ancient dress from the vintage point of view of "History". 
Recreating h-costume? for theater productions such as "You Can't take it with 
You" or maybe "One Touch of Venus" may require designs that are more naive than 
present knowledge of what ancient dress was really like...especially if there 
is nothing extant to study. Referring to Hollander again, one recreates the by 
gone styles in terms of the present aesthetics. A study of the Movie Costumes 
of the past century often displays the fantasies of some of the great 
designers...who cares not a hoot for Historical Costuming.? And isn't this the 
very thing that often comes up on this List whenever any past period gets 
interpreted by 'ignorant' directors and designers.
