Patricia, This white line is only three pixels deep. The white part is online one pixel deep. I think it is probably a scratch on the photo or something on the scanner glass or a bobby pin. At only three pixels, I believe it is a scratch. I run across a lot of photo scratches like this. There is no hint of a lightened spot like this on the opposing side.
