The Bata Shoe Museum is featuring the 1920's in their new exhibition, which is
on until June 2012. There's one talk in particular that I thought h-costumers
might be interested in, in the wintery month of February, unfortunately - not
the best season ever for visiting Toronto. No affiliation, I just love the
museum. They usually have a historical exhibition on, with a new one every
year or two; it's worth keeping an eye out for them. There's also a concert on
September 22 with period costuming encouraged. Details under
exhibitions/roaring20s/ and follow the 'click here' link.

Interpreting the Designer
Illustrated talk by Martha Mann Southgate
As a theatre and fi lm designer for a variety of projects, including Anne of
Green Gables, Martha Mann Southgate will speak on how a contemporary
designer for stage and screen interprets the ideas of some of the most
famous 1920s designers such as Chanel, Lanvin, Poiret, Delaney, Natalia
Gonchorova, Paquin, and Mme Vionnet to name just a few. Using Richard
Strauss’ ‘Intermezzo’ for the New York City Opera which was written,
composed and set in 1925, her talk will also examine how an opera is
different than a musical and the challenges faced when getting it to the stage.
2-3 pm
A short tour of the Roaring 20s exhibition will follow the talk.
$16 per person - Free for Bata Shoe Museum members.
