Well, it's not fading, because the color on the lighter boot is uniform even on the inner seams and under the straps. But fading is as good a technique as any, so I've put the darker boot outside today. Only one side can be facing the sun, so I should be able to tell if it makes any difference by comparing sides.

If it works, I might just fade them both down quite a bit.  Faded is fine.
