That being said for white glue, try carpenters glue (the yellow stuff). Obviously not period, but they make one that is a "bit" flexible for furniture and once it dries, it pretty much stays dried.

The instructions I had said you could rewet and reshape - that was a while ago, they might have changed the formulation since then. White glue is not waterproof.
