I actually have one. Bought a decent dress at a thrift store for summer wear, but it is just a little low in front, so I bought one of the knit garments with spaghetti straps. It has a shelf bra, too--remember those from the '70s? And yes, my much younger co-workers call it a cami. BTW, it is also VERY long, so one could wear it with the extremely low-slung pants that still seem to be in vogue. That is one style that could go away, IMHO. For years they've been calling that garment a cami or a camisole and it is not an undergarment, though it is often worn as a layer, but a layer that is exposed, either partly or entirely.
