If you can make this work and apply it back to your general file system classes to be able to store and randomly access data in files greater than 1 MB on App Engine then I think it can only be a good thing for uses beyond H2.
These type of file systems are likely to become more common and the knowledge learned could be applied to open source projects that seek to setup up distributed file systems.
