If you were to actually PAY for such a version to be developed, I suspect you'd
choose to go ahead and write a migration script. I don't know the details but
I'd guess that what you are asking for is likely months of engineering time and
endless hours of agony trying back-port all the code changes that happened
since the file format change. What you are asking may not even be possible. It
would likely be cheaper for you to just write the migration script and move
your software forward to the most recent version. Download the source tree and
do a diff between the current version and your target version if you want to
get an idea for how much work you are asking for.

I feel your pain. I used to work in the enterprise world...in fact I worked for
a big retail operation...so I used to be in your shoes. However, I'm not sure
how you can go to a DB vendor that consists of one primary guy doing the heavy
lifting and ask him to write a special version just for you at no cost. He's
trying to move his platform forward. He doesn't have the resources to write
special versions for people.

Look, you chose a solution that was free. The price of that choice is that you
have to do more work yourself. Now you know why Oracle, Sybase and SQL-Server
are so expensive. They charge enough money to employ enough developers to keep
people like you happy. If you chose the free solution to save a few dollars,
then you can't complain about the tradeoffs that go along with the choice you
made.
