Hmm; I've now tried it by spawning an H2 tcp server the "normal" way, e.g. from the command line. So the thing has all day to start and settle in. :-)
Then I run my one-line shutdown program (TcpServer.shutdown()). Same result: the shutdown program completes normally; the server stays up. Thanks for the help here.
