   I think that problem is "inverted" convert as Thomas says

I sure that exist another point on code where expect normal convert 
function ("inverted" convert is mandatory for Sybase and SQL Server 
compatibility modes)

  Normal convert function is CONVERT(VALUE, TYPE) and "inverted" is 
CONVERT(TYPE,VALUE)
