my hibernate configuration works fine with Mysql.

I think I'm using the correct dialect:

<property name="databasePlatform" value="org.hibernate.dialect.H2Dialect" />

Howewer you confirm that there is not a function DATE() in H2? This is what 
date function do: 
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/date-and-time-functions.html#function_date
